Governor Pledges to Push Public Campaign Financing in the Upcoming Session
January 7th, 2019
Governor Cuomo, in an interview with WCNY’s Capital Pressroom, urged the Legislature to pass public financing of elections and take up other campaign finance reform agenda items like closing the LLC loophole. The details of the plan are unknown, but, they usually consist of a matching (or multiplying) of public money for small dollar donations to campaigns.
Cuomo said in the interview:
“Pass public finance like you said you would pass. Pass campaign finance… well, I am going to send them the bills before. And I hope they pass them as soon as they get them.” The Governor continued by saying “[t]he budget is the catch-all. So anything that’s not passed, we will do in the budget. Because the budget is, serves an important purpose. It is a deadline for action. You know? Legislative bodies, Executives, we can talk all day long and debate details.”
