Unshackle Upstate Commends Senate Majority’s Call for Lower Taxes and Mandate Relief

Statement attributable to Greg Biryla, Unshackle Upstate executive director
“Hardworking families simply cannot thrive in New York’s high tax environment. In fact, more than a million New Yorkers have fled the state since 2010 in search of jobs and lower taxes.
We thank Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and his conference for recognizing this crisis and advancing commonsense proposals – like a permanent property tax cap and state spending cap – that will continue to provide relief to struggling taxpayers.
We’re also encouraged by the proposed reduction of energy taxes.
Residents and businesses pay some of the highest energy costs in the nation. Eliminating the Gross Receipts Tax and 18-a assessment tax will help lower costs and ease the burden on consumers.
These pro-growth measures will reduce the cost of living for millions of New Yorkers and make Upstate a more attractive place to start and grow a business.“
