Statement from Unshackle Upstate Regarding New Siena Poll
April 16th, 2019
“The findings of today’s Siena poll (https://scri.siena.edu/2019/04/16/voters-strongly-say-permanent-property-tax-cap-plastic-bag-ban-are-good-for-ny/) should serve as a major wake-up call for our leaders in Albany.
New Yorkers recognize that the State’s business climate and fiscal outlook are troublesome at best. Improving New York’s harsh business climate starts by rejecting proposals including an expanded prevailing wage mandate, a single payer health scheme and expensive energy mandates.
The poll also found that New Yorkers – including Democrats and New York City residents – strongly oppose spending taxpayer money on expensive political campaigns. Wasting $100 million on robocalls and consultants is a slap in the face to hardworking taxpayers across New York. Whenever the public financing commission issues its findings, the Legislature should reject them outright.
When the Legislature comes back to Albany later this month, we urge them to focus on efforts that will actually benefit overburdened taxpayers and struggling businesses.”
