Business Groups Release 2018 Agendas
January 25th, 2018
On Wednesday, the Business Council of New York State (BCNYS) released its 2018 Legislative and Regulatory Agenda, Blueprint for a Better New York. The report “urges the Governor and the Legislature to respond to the state’s growing budget deficit and federal actions by examining and reassessing our state’s competitiveness in relation to the rest of the country.”
BCNYS supports improving the state’s workforce development efforts; expanding and updating the state’s energy infrastructure; and action on labor law and state tax reforms. the group opposes the expansion of prevailing wage mandates to private sector projects; unworkable cyber security mandates; “pay-equity” related mandates, and other additional labor law mandates; and proposals to create a state-level single-payer health plan.
On Thursday, the New York chapter of the National Federal of Independent Businesses (NFIB) released its 2018 legislative agenda. The group’s priorities include small business tax cuts; additional workers’ compensation reforms; sensible changes to the calculation of prevailing wages; and lawsuit reform, including adoption of a comparative negligence standard in Labor Law 240/241 (Scaffold law) cases.
Unshackle Upstate values its relationships with both NFIB and the Business Council of New York State. Both organizations are important partners in helping to create a better tax and business climate for all New Yorkers.
