WFP Endorses Nixon Over Cuomo
April 20th, 2018
On Saturday, the Executive Board of the state’s Working Families Party (WFP) voted to endorse Cynthia Nixon in the race for Governor. The WFP also endorsed New York City Council Member Jumaane Williams for Lieutenant Governor. Both Nixon and Williams are also running in their respective Democratic primaries in an effort to defeat Governor Andrew Cuomo and Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul.
The party’s move has given energy to Nixon’s challenge to Gov. Cuomo, and could deep the divisions among the state’s Democrats. But in the short term, it is likely to push the Governor even further to the left – at least through the Democratic primary in September.
This is obviously a major concern for Unshackle Upstate and our partners. The WFP’s agenda – which includes higher taxes, more state spending, and more mandates on businesses – is obviously one that will undermine the efforts to improve the Upstate economy.
