Business Council Survey Shows Strong Opposition to Single Payer Health Care Proposal
June 12th, 2018
Last week, the Business Council of New York State (BCNYS) released the results of a poll on single-payer health care in New York. The results show strong opposition to the idea, largely due to the high costs associated with it.
We are not surprised by the poll’s findings, given the lack of information about how this new system of health care would function, and how it would be paid for. The sponsors of the bill do not even try to offer a real estimate regarding of the cost of program will be. The best estimate seems to be that $200 billion in new taxes would be required to pay for a single payer health care system in New York. And to make matters worse, it’s likely that a state-run health care program would lead to the elimination of thousands of private sector jobs throughout the state.

While the administration and delivery of health care in New York must continue to be analyzed and updated to benefit its residents, additional government programs that burden businesses and their employees by imposing massive new taxes is policy that will have a devastating impact to the hard-working communities across Upstate New York
