In a
surprise announcement, DEC commissioner Basil Seggos has said that he will stay on as commissioner of the New York Department of Environment Conservation. It was reported earlier, and confirmed by the commissioner himself as recently as the joint budget hearing on environmental conservation, that he would be stepping down and moving on from his tenure at the department. Seggos has held the post since 2015.
Seggos said of his decision to stay:
“If I left, I realized that I would forever regret that decision, so I am excited to continue the fight and continue the incredible progress being made under Governor Cuomo’s leadership. New York is demonstrating national leadership when it is needed most, and this is no time to step out of the fight.”
