Unshackle Upstate Statement Regarding Farm Labor Wage Board Meeting
February 28th, 2020
“Last year, we joined farmers, farmworkers and countless others in opposing the so-called Farmworker Fair Labor Practices Act. Thousands of voices spoke out about the negative impacts this bill would have on family farms, workers, and the ailing Upstate economy.
Despite those strong objections, this legislation was passed, and ultimately signed in a New York City newsroom. Now, not even 60 days later, the farm labor wage board is meeting to discuss potential changes that will make this deeply flawed policy even more onerous on our state’s agriculture industry.
Given the anemic status of the Upstate economy and the decline in the number of farms in recent years, leaders in Albany should oppose any effort to make matters worse.”
