Upstate United Warns Against Packaging Reduction & Recycling Infrastructure Act
June 10th, 2025
The following statement can be attributed to Justin Wilcox, Executive Director of Upstate United
“As the New York state legislature continues to receive strong opposition from both unions and businesses, lawmakers should stop trying to rush through the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act at the end of session. This bill will drive up costs for consumers, small businesses, and manufacturers throughout the state at a time when they’re already struggling with increased prices and supply chain pressures.
“The bill also fails at truly achieving sustainability. The only way to reach the state’s ambitious recycled content goals without dramatically increasing prices is to embrace innovation and advanced recycling technologies. Albany must stop prioritizing rushed mandates over real affordability and instead pursue smart, balanced policies that work for everyday New Yorkers.”
