Upstate United Responds to GE Vernova Investment in Downtown Schenectady

The following statement can be attributed to Justin Wilcox, Executive Director of Upstate United

“Today, Governor Hochul announced that GE Vernova will invest $41 million into its Center of Excellence in Downtown Schenectady. We applaud this partnership and the creation of 50 jobs that will help New York support the manufacturing, research and development needed to meet the demand for electricity. GE Vernova’s investments in the Capital District has solidified its position as the world leader in steam turbine technology.

“However, it is also another glaring example of the inconsistent and incoherent policies that conflict with the laws we have on the books. The irony should not be lost on anyone. This investment will help to manufacture components which accompany their gas turbines that will serve a global market, but cannot be used in New York under measures outlined by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.”
