Unshackle Upstate Slams Harmful State Budget

April 1st, 2020

“In the midst of an economic crisis brought on by a global pandemic, Albany rejected calls to do no harm. Instead, lawmakers rushed through a budget filled with policies that will impede New York’s economic recovery.

New prevailing wage mandates on private construction work will increase project costs and reduce employment opportunities – especially in Upstate New York. This is a stunning example of Albany rewarding special interests at the expense of workers, taxpayers and job creators.

This budget also hurts struggling small businesses and restaurants at the worst possible time. New employer mandates, costly product bans and the elimination of a small business tax cuts are devastating blows for businesses, manufacturers, restaurant owners and workers when they can least afford it.

Now more than ever, we needed our leaders in Albany to protect jobs and support businesses. Unfortunately, this budget does more harm than good for the state’s ailing economy and overburdened taxpayers.”
