Statement from Upstate United Regarding August 2022 Consumer Price Index
September 13th, 2022
The following statement is attributable to Justin Wilcox, executive director of Upstate United
“The August 2022 Consumer Price Index published today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that sky-high inflation is still squeezing struggling consumers and employers across the nation.
The rising costs of food – 11.4 percent over the last – year is especially alarming.
Given this troubling trend, we strongly urge Governor Hochul to instruct Labor Commissioner Reardon to reject the report from the Farm Laborers Wage Board. Higher costs for farms will only lead to fewer farm jobs and more headaches for consumers. We should do more to help, not hurt, the family farms that feed our communities and fuel our economy.”
