Statement from Upstate United Regarding Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State Address
January 5th, 2022
The following statement is attributable to Justin Wilcox, executive director of Upstate United
“We commend Governor Hochul for recognizing and addressing New York’s extraordinary economic challenges during her State of the State address. It’s no secret that working families, small business owners, family farms and taxpayers across the state are struggling right now.
We’re also encouraged by Governor Hochul’s focus on tax relief for homeowners and small business owners. This should be a key priority during the upcoming legislative session as high taxes are a driving factor of New York’s outmigration crisis.
Moving forward, Upstate United will continue to advocate for unemployment insurance relief, the extension of the state’s Brownfield Cleanup Program, employer-led workforce development initiatives and other pro-growth measures.
Governor Hochul’s vision for a new era must reject Albany’s old ways. Massive tax increases, anti-business mandates and uncontrolled spending will only hurt the state’s recovery efforts. In order to achieve real progress, we must rebuild our economy and revive our communities.”
