Unshackle Upstate Calls for Additional Hearings on Climate Legislation

February 4th, 2019

ALBANY, NY – Unshackle Upstate, a pro-taxpayer education and advocacy organization, has submitted to a letter to Senator Todd Kaminsky requesting for additional hearings to be held in Upstate communities regarding the New York State Climate and Community Protection Act.

In late January, the Senate announced that Senator Kaminsky would lead three hearings to solicit public feedback on the New York State Climate and Community Protection Act. The current hearings will be held in Albany, New York City and Mineola. Michael Kracker, executive director of Unshackle Upstate, wants more Upstate energy consumers to have an opportunity to speak about this proposal.

“Small manufacturers, farmers and all other residents who rely on affordable and accessible energy deserve to have their voices heard on this measure. We respectfully call on Environmental Conservation Committee Chairman Kaminsky to schedule additional hearings in Upstate communities beyond the Capital Region.”

Among the leading concerns about the proposal, Unshackle Upstate cited the high cost of energy in New York and the potential job losses. The full letter can be viewed here: https://upstateunited.com/assets/news/020419_kaminsky_letter.pdf
