Upstate United Reacts to Port Strike Along U.S. Coasts
October 3rd, 2024
A statement from Justin Wilcox, Executive Director of Upstate United.
“In representing trade groups and regional chambers of commerce throughout Upstate New York, we know firsthand that many industries, business owners, and consumers are still recovering from the pandemic and battling inflation. This is the first strike of its kind since 1977, and in only a few days, more than 40 container vessels are lined up at various ports along the coast and unable to unload a wide variety of containerized goods.
“The impacts of a prolonged strike of employees at major U.S. ports is something to be concerned with for many reasons. A sensible resolution is necessary before consumers are once again faced with shortages and industries, from agriculture to manufacturing, lose the ability to export perishable goods or time-sensitive items.”
