Upstate United Releases 2023 Advocacy Agenda
December 27th, 2022
ROCHESTER, NY – Upstate United, a pro-taxpayer education and advocacy organization, released its 2023 Advocacy Agenda today. Highlighting New York State’s population problems and lagging economic recovery, Upstate United is calling on Governor Hochul and legislators to focus on pro-growth policies.
“Our economy is struggling to recover from the pandemic and New Yorkers are fleeing to other states in droves. We need Albany to tackle these major problems and embrace pro-growth policies during the upcoming legislative session,” said Justin Wilcox, executive director of Upstate United. “The need to grow our economy and our communities has never been greater.”
Key proposals in the agenda include:
- Broad-Based Tax Relief
- Unemployment Insurance Relief and Reform
- Energy Reliability and Affordability
- Employer-Led Workforce Development
- Refugees/Immigrant-Led Repopulation
- Investments in Upstate Infrastructure
Wilcox also cautioned elected officials against advancing policies that would drive up the state’s cost of living.
“New York’s cost of living is the fourth highest in the nation while our business tax climate is the second worst. Any measure that adds more financial pressure on families and employers must be rejected. We need to get our economy moving – not our people.”
The 2023 Legislative Session begins January 4, 2023.
