Upstate United Releases 2023 End of Session Priorities
June 5th, 2023
Upstate United has released its 2023 End of Session Priorities ahead of the last scheduled week of this year’s Legislative Session.
The non-partisan organization, which represents businesses and trade organizations, focuses on being pro-taxpayer and pro-economic growth, with a large emphasis on the needs of Upstate New York.
The priorities include five top items Upstate United would like to see approved, as well as nine proposals that they oppose.
Items of support include:
- Improvement of New York State’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Accounting System
- Unemployment Insurance Relief and Reform
- Prevention of Retail Crime and Strengthening of Consumer Protections
- Expand and Enhance Wireless Broadband
- Elimination of COVID Sick Pay
Items of opposition include, but are not limited to:
- Extended Producer Responsibility
- New York Health Act
- Prevailing Wage Requirements
- Employee Lien
- Data Privacy
“We are in the homestretch of the 2023 Legislative Session, and if we know anything about Albany and how Legislative leaders conduct business, we know that a lot can happen in only four days,” said Justin Wilcox, Executive Director of Upstate United. “As an organization we were able to identify a handful of strong proposals that we would like to see passed in the final days, but it comes as no surprise that we identified far more measures that we believe would be problematic to industries, employers, and New York taxpayers.
“We are asking that legislators focus on bills that will benefit all New Yorkers and not push through those that will further burden already struggling businesses and consumers statewide.”
