Upstate United 2024 Advocacy Agenda and Key Priorities

Today, Upstate United, a non-partisan organization representing businesses and trade organizations, released its 2024 Advocacy Agenda. The agenda focuses on pro-taxpayer and pro-economic growth policies, including items such as no new taxes, infrastructure investments, energy reliability and affordability, enhancing healthcare options, reinvigorating our communities with immigrants, and more.

“Over the past three years, New York State has had a population decline of more than 600,000 – a number far outpacing decline in larger states, like California. It is well beyond time to change course for the sake of our state’s economy and the overall success of the residents and businesses who call it home,” said Justin Wilcox, executive director of Upstate United.

“Being ranked #1 for overall tax burden as well as population decline is not by coincidence. Albany leadership must do their part to improve opportunity for success statewide, but particularly in Upstate communities. The cost of living plays a large role in the continued Empire State Exodus. We must make our state more affordable not only to correct significant population decline but also so local businesses and key industries can thrive.”

In addition to identifying key items that the group supports, the agenda also points to proposals introduced by the Legislature that they continue to oppose.
