Upstate United Releases 2024 End of Session Priorities
May 23rd, 2024
Upstate United has released its 2024 End of Session Priorities ahead of the final scheduled week of this year’s Legislative Session. The non-partisan organization, which represents businesses and trade organizations, focuses on being pro-taxpayer and pro-economic growth, with a large emphasis on the needs of Upstate New York.
Upstate United has outlined the top three items its membership hopes to see approved and six proposals they remain staunchly opposed to.
Items of support include:
- Making Staging Construction Accident a Felony (S.8413-A/A.8981-A)
- Consumer Litigation Funding Act (S.2594-A/A.2702)
- Pay Frequency Law (Fix Labor Law §191)
Items of opposition include:
- Extended Producer Responsibility (S.4246-B/A.5322-B)
- Expanded Bottle Bill (S.237/A.6353)
- New York HEAT Act (S.2016-B/A.4592-B)
- New York Health Act (S.7590/A.7897)
- Prevailing Wage on Custom Prefab Work (S.547-A/A.373)
- Prevailing Wage on Brownfields (S.5868-A/A.7491)
“As an organization, comprised of Upstate chambers of commerce and statewide associations, we identified three top items we believe should be acted on and six items that would be detrimental to our state,” said Justin Wilcox, Executive Director of Upstate United. “Collectively, we believe legislation to protect New York tax dollars and local business owners, enhance economic development opportunities, and promote affordability should be the focus in the final days of session the 2024 Legislative Session.
“We ask Albany leaders to prioritize the needs and concerns of residents, communities, and business rather than fast-tracking poorly constructed policies that would negatively impact them,”
