Upstate United Responds to NYISO’s Latest Report
July 24th, 2026
The following statement can be attributed to Justin Wilcox, Executive Director of Upstate United.
“What is clear from the NYISO’s latest report is that policy choices are determining system outcomes. By any objective measure, those outcomes are not well suited to attract data centers or any large load employers on the scale of Micron, now or in the near future. In fact, the NYISO concludes that, ‘Electricity demand growth is outpacing resource additions and increasing the urgency of timely resource and infrastructure development.’
“New York’s energy policies are broken. And as the ISO report emphasizes, additional power generation resources are needed urgently and at scale. Without an immediate course correction, New York, through its own inaction, will effectively be placing a moratorium on any additional large load employers. If we truly want to allow our most successful companies to grow and expand here and compete for the next generation of advanced manufacturing jobs, leaders in Albany cannot ignore the data and the clear message contained in this report.”
